Helping kids learn to read

The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Learning Centre in Windsor provides tutoring at no cost to families for children with dyslexia. We help kids build reading and spelling skills and feel proud of their progress.

We use the Orton-Gillingham approach. It’s a step-by-step approach that works for all children but especially well for children who struggle with reading and writing due to dyslexia.

Our Mission

To provide quality, state of the art, free remedial tutoring to children with difficulties in reading, writing, and related scholastic skills formally identified as dyslexia.

Our history

In 2003, the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada opened its first learning centre in London, Ontario. This pilot program was based on successful models from the United States and focused on helping children with dyslexia using the Orton-Gillingham approach.

The success of the London Centre led to the establishment of additional centres across Canada, all sharing the same mission: to provide free, effective tutoring to children with dyslexia.

The Windsor Centre opened in 2005.

The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation

The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada, founded in 1964, supports research into neurological conditions and provides funding for Learning Centres that help children with dyslexia. While the Foundation contributes to some of the Centre’s expenses, additional donations are essential to cover the full cost of operations.

Thanks to the Foundation’s support, our centre can offer tutoring at no cost to families.
